Guest Blogging

I was asked to write a blog on prayer for Central’s brand new prayer website. I called it “Coke Prayer vs. Seed Prayer.”

I too love the imagery. You gave me more to think about regarding planting seeds in prayer and watching it develop and grow. It causes anticipation instead of disappointment because there is still movement – ongoing. Prayer truly is one of the most underutilized and misunderstood disciplines. I’m challenged and encouraged even more.

I concur. I think the idea of just getting simple yes and no answers leaves no room for growth. I think that the way God answers our prayers allows us to become who we are. Great piece bro.

“A seed prayer focuses more on God’s answer than my request.” So couldn’t this theoretically be saying that our prayers do not change the mind of God? That if we pray correctly we are focusing on God, His will, and how He chooses to answer that which we come to talk to Him about? I don’t know if I have a complete full-proof answer to prayer, but I still doubt the idea of God changing His mind or going back against His original intent simply because a person did or did not ask Him about something….

Landon – you are making the statement into an extreme. I’m not saying that our request becomes null and void. Instead, our prayers align themselves closer to the will of God as we become more in tuned with Him.

I think of James 4:2b-3 “You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.”

I think that seed prayers align our motives closer to that of God and as a result we pray for things that He is more likely to answer.

What do you think the reason for praying is if God isn’t willing to honestly listen and consider what we pray for?

Valid point. I guess I am just trying to reconcile my brain around the idea that God doesn’t have things planned out. Or if I fail to pray that someone in my life is going to die from some disease, fail in their jobs, or have some other bad thing happen to them. Like Peter would have died by Herod’s hand in Acts 12 if the church hadn’t prayed.

Hi, thank you for your interesting post!
You really have nice pictures on your blog!
I can see the resemblance between the prayer and the two pictures! Especially the seed one!
    God bless you!
