The Role of the Artist

“Artists use lies to tell the truth, while politicians use them to cover the truth up.”

I’ve always thought of that as a profound truth. Especially because I first heard it in one of my favorite movies.

You see this in the following video. It is the most fascinating five minutes you’ll spend today.

Amazing, right?

Before you jump on my case for promoting “lie telling,” ask yourself what a parable is. It is a fictional story (never “actually” happened) that portrays a real truth. If I recall, Jesus told a few of them. Jesus was a brilliant artist in so many ways.

How are you artistically telling the truth?

If you are still curious—watch the following video for a behind the scenes on what Marco is doing to pull off his magic.

I think that taking deception or illusionist entertainment to the 21st century is indeed cool. Even the basis of analogies that we use when we teach someone a new concept is typically a made up story. Therefore we all use these or hear these everyday. They are actually a positive instrument when teaching or learning a new concept. If the teacher is good at it, he is also a good “artist”.
