Gavin in the future?

I was sent an “artist’s rendering” of Gavin in future years if he lives up to his middle name. As you may or may not know, Mattingly comes from my favorite Yankee’s player when I was a kid…Don Mattingly. I’ve included a picture of Don Mattingly followed by the “artist’s rendering” of Gavin in years to come. Seems he’ll turn out to be one good-looking guy!

The First Ever “Trady”

Image and video hosting by TinyPicI have a new idea. I’m adding an award section to my blog. This is where I’ll give out random awards to people that I think deserve to be noticed.

So…(drumroll please)…I’m giving the first-ever “Tomorrow’s Reflection Award for Distinguishing Yourself,” also known as a “Trady,” to a guy named Zack Hample. What has Zack done to deserve such a prestigious honor? I’m glad you asked.

Image and video hosting by TinyPicZack is known for catching important home run baseballs at ballparks. Recently, Zach has added 2 of the last homeruns ever hit at Yankee Stadium and the last homerun ball ever hit by the Mets at Shea Stadium. Is it luck, or something more?

You may wonder what this guy does for a living. He charges people $500 to take him to a baseball game and ensure that they get a ball while they are there. He even guarantees it! Well done Zack, you’ve just been Trady-ed!

Thanks to Romi for this find. I now open it to the readers: do you know of anyone that deserves a Trady? If so, email it to me and maybe you’ll see their names next to their own Trady sometime soon.

Here are the requirements to be considered for this award:

  1. The person must have some unique talent or passion (neigh, obsession) that is different from most people
  2. The person must be someone who is not a “celebrity” and that needs the attention and power that comes from receiving a Trady
  3. The person must do something that someone else could argue was a complete waist of time

Derek Jeter and My Son

Michelle decided to humor an idea I had for our baby room and now we have a life-sized Derek Jeter “Fathead” on our wall. My kid doesn’t even know how good he’s gonna have it. After how nice it looked I then proposed that we could put more of these around our house. That idea hasn’t caught on yet…

Hitting the Target?

As most of you know, I love baseball. There is so much to the sport that is so interesting to me. Part of the game involves pitchers intentionally hitting batters for different reasons (many people would refer to this as “dirty” baseball but it is a part of it nonetheless). Then rivalry and team loyalty kicks in and the opposing pitcher will “protect” his team by following suit and hitting a batter himself. I’ve seen this with the Yankees/Red Sox numerous times. It is a subtle part of the game.

I came across a video today of something I had never seen though. A high school player beans an umpire…directly in the face. Coincidence? Decide for yourself. (Hint: watch what the catcher does as he “misses” the ball). Watch it here. You can read an in depth play-by-play here.

So here is my question: should this be considered another part of the game (if you really don’t like how the ump is calling the game) or is this immoral and something that should be banned and punished at all costs?

I can say this though, if it was intentional then that guy can throw!

I Love New York

So the 3F team is in NY this week for a conference and we came out a day early to see the Yankees play a game in the last season of the original Yankee Stadium. It was amazing (and ridiculously cold, see below)! Despite my favorite player getting pulled in the third inning due to injury, the game was great and they dominated for me 6-1!
