Archives For Off the Record

bryan allainBryan is the author of Community Wins and 31 Days to Finding Your Blogging Mojo. According to his website, he describes himself as a “humor writer, blog coach, and mammal.” He is incredibly witty and incredibly insightful when it comes to fostering an online community around what you do. He has written for RELEVANT, Stuff Christians Like, COLLIDE Magazine, and The Daily Beast. As I’ve said previously, Bryan has three really compelling things going for him: 1) he’s a solid Christian guy, 2) he’s a blogging stud, and 3) he’s hilarious.

To promote this interview, I’ll be giving away two autographed books from Bryan. In order to enter your name into the mix for one of them you can do up to three of the following:

  1. Leave a comment on this post sharing your favorite part of this interview. ENTRY +1
  2. Tweet the link to this post (you can use the floating Twitter box to the left of your cursor on this post). ENTRY +1
  3. Share the link to this post on Facebook (tag my name on it so that I can count it) ENTRY +1

That’s three possible ways to get your name into the mix for a signed copy of one of Bryan’s books. I’ll announce the winners later next week.

Tyrone Wells

I first met Tyrone Wells when I was in college in California. He had graduated from my school a handful of years before me and was then leading worship at a church on campus. He was the big thing at a local music venue each week and I was privileged to get to open for him one time. He has since focused on writing and recording and playing it for people wherever that takes him. That has included four full-length albums and his music being featured in shows such as American Idol, One Tree Hill, Grey’s Anatomy, and many more. We’ve had him out to play at Central on a regular basis and each time I interact with him I’m always impressed how genuine and humble he is to everyone. And how much everyone loves him and his music.

To promote this interview, I’ll be giving away two autographed CDs from Tyrone. In order to enter your name into the mix you can do up to three of the following:

  1. Leave a comment on this post sharing your favorite part of this interview. ENTRY +1
  2. Tweet the link to this post (you can use the floating Twitter box to the left of your cursor on this post). ENTRY +1
  3. Subscribe your email to my blog (you can enter your email into the box at the end of this post) ENTRY +1

The Day Metallica Came to ChurchI first became familiar with John Van Sloten when I read and reviewed his book, The Day Metallica Came To Church. It is a terrific look at the ways in which God speaks to us (in more ways than just the Bible). John is the pastor of a church in Canada (remember that so that you catch his humor when I ask him about the Church in America). John and I were connected when I invited him to come out for our Absent documentary showing where James Hetfield (lead singer of Metallica) was at Central. John wasn’t able to join us but he did send me a book that I gave to James that night. I was impressed with how God orchestrates stories like that.

To promote this interview, I’ll be giving away two autographed copies of John’s book. In order to enter your name into the mix you can do up to three of the following:

  1. Subscribe your email to my blog (you can enter your email into the box at the end of this post) ENTRY +1
  2. Tweet the link to this post (you can use the floating Twitter box to the left of your cursor on this post). ENTRY +1
  3. Leave a comment on this post sharing your favorite part of this interview. ENTRY +1

I recently reviewed Blaine Hogan‘s new book, Untitled, and now I am proud to do an Off the Record interview with him. Blaine is a guy that bleeds creativity and that has taken him through being an actor on TV shows like “Prison Break,” to where he now finds himself as the creative director at Willow Creek Community Church.

I will be giving away two free copies of Blaine’s book. Here is how you can win one:

  1. Leave a comment on this post answering the question: “What is the biggest challenge to your creativity?”
  2. Retweet my tweet at the end of this post on your Twitter account.

That means that each person could be entered up to 2 times in this drawing. I will pick the winners on Monday.

OTR – Noah

Jeremy Jernigan —  April 28, 2011 — 6 Comments

I was able to connect recently with an incredible artist named Noah. He has applied his gifts in many different formats, as his bio explains better than anything I can write…

“Born and raised in Orange County, California, the artist known as Noah has emerged as one of the hottest talents to hit the fine art market and custom art scene. Noah first earned local recognition in the early nineties for setting up his easel in neighborhood coffee shops around Costa Mesa and painting portraits of famous celebrities for throngs of fascinated patrons. His portraiture caught the eye of collectors like Nicole Kidman, Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, Craig T. Nelson, ZZ Top, and the Black Crowes. Soon after, corporate clients came knocking. Lexus Motor Cars, Levi’s and Toyota, among many others, commissioned Noah to enhance their corporate collections and in 2004 he painted the famous pink “Suki” car in Universal Pictures’ 2 Fast 2 Furious. Noah’s ‘body art,’ created for clients like Red Bull Energy Drink and recording artist Pink – he adorned her body with tattoos for a recent music video, has similarly exposed his talent to a broader audience.
