The Sign of the Fish

This weekend I wrapped up our seven-week summer series at Central. It’s been called Pixelated, and unpacks Old Testament stories and how they reveal more of Jesus to us. We closed out the series looking at the story of Jonah, and how it’s hard to see Jesus when you keep demanding more.

Below you can also watch the final Facebook Live video we did as we went through questions you guys submitted.

I spent this week at the 2016 North American Christian Convention in Anaheim California. This conference moves locations each year and is a great chance to connect with other churches who have come out of the same history as ours. The theme this year was called “A Better Story.”

Below I’ve selected twenty of my favorite quotes from the event. Each of these quotes is my best representation in writing of what the speakers said verbally or a summary thereof. Any errors in wording are my own. At the bottom of the page are some tweetable versions of them.

Image Management

Wow, what a memorable weekend we had at Central. After the heartbreaking stories that emerged last week I invited our church to spend time with me on our knees praying, lamenting, and asking God to teach us how to love others differently. It was truly an incredible experience and you can watch it in the first few minutes of the video above. We shared pictures of us on our knees on our Facebook page and it became our most shared post EVER by far. I couldn’t be more proud of our community in that moment.

I talked through a message about an outsider who became an insider through participation with God. As we saw, our willingness to choose to look at God determines our ability to participate in His story. Below you can watch our Facebook Live video talking through questions submitted by you guys.

Water on the Rocks

This weekend I went through our fifth week of our Pixelated summer series at Central. I looked at the stories of the Israelites struggling with thirst in the wilderness and losing sight of God. Even Moses loses sight of God and disobeys Him in the way he gets water to come out of the rock. This will ultimately cost him the Promised Land.

As we unpacked it, I talked about how we should not let our thirst blur our vision of what God is up to in our midst. As Paul later reflected on this story, he explained that the rock which produced water was actually Jesus, and Jesus was always with them!

Below you can watch the Facebook Live video I did on Sunday night as I went through questions from our church.

Rick Warren and Jeremy JerniganI had the opportunity to attend the Purpose Driven Church conference this week in California, hosted by Saddleback and Rick Warren. In case you missed it (which I’m not sure is possible), Warren’s book The Purpose Driven Life sold more than 32 million copies and became a runaway success worldwide. This conference was designed to pour into church leaders and empower local churches to think more strategically in the way they develop people.

Below I’ve selected twenty of my favorite quotes from the event. Each of these quotes is my best representation in writing of what Rick said verbally or a summary thereof. Any errors in wording are my own. At the bottom of the page are some tweetable versions of them.
