20 Quotes – Leadership Summit

Like I did at last year’s Leadership Summit, I wanted to take the time to post the top twenty quotes that most stood out to me this year. For those of you who may be unaware, The Leadership Summit is a two day conference hosted by Willow Creek Community Church in Chicago. Central has hosted the event the last few years at one of our campuses. Each of these quotes is my best representation in writing of what they said verbally or a summary thereof. Any errors in wording are my own.

Bill Hybels

Everyone wins when a leader gets better. God didn’t make you a leader to respond to stuff all day. He made you a leader to move stuff ahead! The leader’s most valuable asset is their energy and their ability to energize people, not their time. It’s one thing to see a vision and another to be seized by one.

Condoleezza Rice

If every life is worthy, every life is also capable of greatness. Today’s headlines rarely equal history’s judgment.

Jim Collins

The signature of mediocrity is not unwillingness to change. It is chronic inconsistency. Creativity is natural. Discipline is not. Success comes from a genius blend of both.

Craig Groeschel

If you’re not dead, you’re not done. Respect is earned but honor is given.

Patrick Lencioni

People need to be reminded more than they need to be instructed. A core value is something you’re willing to be punished for. If your people can’t do a good impression of you when you’re not around then you’re not doing a good job communicating.

William Ury

The greatest obstacle to getting what I need in negotiation is me. The greatest power I have in negotiation is the power is not to react.

Mario Vega

Those who allow themselves the liberty of moral failure open themselves up for future failures. Not only are we responsible for our own actions, but also for our influence over others.

John Ortberg

Too often we argue about Christianity when we should be marveling at Jesus. The power of Jesus has a subversive way of refusing to stay submerged. The reason that we must marvel at this man, is because HIS work is not done yet.

**BONUS**

Here are a few extra quotes that were quoted by the speakers this year. These people weren’t there (as should be obvious by at least one of the names) but still offer a valuable part of the conversation this year. These are beyond the twenty “official” quotes above, so consider them free on the house.
“Do I not destroy my enemy by turning them into my friend?” Abraham Lincoln “Honor, publicly, results in influence, privately.” Andy Stanley “Travelers, there is no path, paths are made by walking.” Antonio Machado
