I’m at the Story Conference in Chicago and one of the surprise hits has been a music duo named Listener. The style of their music is described by the lead singer as “talk music.” It catches you completely off guard and then mesmerizes you. Check out this video I recorded on my phone during an after-party for a brief clip of them:
In addition, they had a hilarious stage presence with very dry humor. Here are some of the things the singer said in between songs:
- “Thank you for clapping and whistling and stuff. This will be our 4th song if you’re writing in a journal or something.”
- “Does anybody have any questions?” (asked at two different times)
- “We have a website if you want to check it out. It’s open 24/7.”
If you are as fascinated by them as I am you can see more here.
Check out mewithoutYou then. They do the same thing. I have their records and really dig them.
I don’t think anybody could do the SAME thing!
Dig these guys and so glad you got to experience them…pretty crazy cool, eh?!!
But even more jealous you guys got to experience Sons and Daughters (a good friend of mine knows them really well and had been telling me about them about a year ago!!) Loooove them!!

Hope it was a grand experience!! : )
Yep, there are all in Chicago.
Jeremy, I’m very happy you got the chance to see these guys. I just introduced them to the Axiom show last Sunday. Im trying to find more of this type of music. It’s very in depth and I can’t help but feel a connection everytime I listen…
I certainly haven’t been able to get them out of my head!
I’m really glad you posted that little sample so I could figure out really quick that I never, ever want to pay good money for their music(?).
Donna you are missing out!
