Late Night with Nate

Since you guys have enjoyed Holli’s songs so much with my friend Holli belting her favorite songs in the car, I have found a new segment to add to the blog. My friend Nate apparently likes to dance when nobody else is around and record it on his phone. And boy does he have some moves! So check out our newest music section on the blog and watch the video below.

The Red Letters Project

Recently I was given a copy of the Red Letters Project to review on my blog. I’ll admit, I was a bit perplexed by the idea of it. It is all of Jesus’ words in the book of Matthew put to music. They describe it this way: “an ambitious and eclectic 3-disc performance based on the ‘red letter’ words of Jesus from the Gospel of Matthew. Drawn word-for-word from the New Living Translation, it’s a real listening experience, featuring 40 tracks, both sung and narrated.”

Red Letters ProjectIt is three CDs with different singers throughout the project. As I listened to them the one word that kept coming to mind was “weird.” Truthfully, most of it is painfully bad. To be fair though, they are tackling a daunting challenge. Much of it sounds like cheesy Christian music with forced lyrics (because they are). But there were three of the songs that I genuinely liked. And I noticed that they were all the same singer. Then I realized that he sounded a lot like a band that I used to be into called Ra. So I looked up the info in the CD case and was blown away to realize that it IS the singer from the band Ra. I didn’t know he was a believer (still don’t I guess, but at least he likes the Bible).

So I guess 3 out of 40 songs isn’t a very good ratio of approval, but it was an interesting process if nothing else. The one thing that I can confidently say is that it truly is a “real listening experience.” Kudos to them for the idea but I don’t think it worked.

Holli’s Hits – Airplanes

Since our first installment of Holli singing “Imma Be” was such a hit, here is round two. This time, Holli shows her rap skills as she sings Eminem’s part to the B.O.B. song “Airplanes.”

Holli’s Hits – Imma Be

Holli's HitsI have a friend named Holli that LOVES to sing in the car. While that may not sound unusual, she also loves to record herself singing and send it to a handful of us to enjoy. It dawned on me that this is too good to keep to myself, so I’m thinking of periodically posting these here for you to enjoy as well. She told me she’d even take requests! Click on the link below to hear Holli’s rendition of 27 seconds of the Black Eyed Peas song, Imma Be.

TRADY Award – Brett Domino

After a long period without a nomination, it’s time for our 4th ever TRADY Award (Tomorrow’s Reflection Award for Distinguishing Yourself). This time, the honor goes to my man Brett Domino (he deserves the award just for the awesomeness of his name alone). Brett is quite the talented guy, just watch the videos below and see for yourself.

So congratulations Brett and welcome to the TRADY club. You inspire us with your ability to make sweet melodies out of things that most of us wouldn’t spend more than 5 minutes with. Not to mention a fantastic display of dry, English humor.

As usual, if you know of anyone that deserves a TRADY then please email it to me and maybe you’ll see their name next to their own award sometime soon.

Here are the requirements to be considered for this award:

  1. The person must have some unique talent or passion (neigh, obsession) that is different from most people
  2. The person must be someone who is not a “celebrity” and that needs the attention and power that comes from receiving a TRADY
  3. The person must do something that someone else could argue was a complete waist of time
