Start by Jon Acuff
Disclaimer: I was given an early copy of this book that releases today. This is my most objective review possible and I am in no way obligated to give it a positive review.
I’ve been a fan of Jon Acuff for awhile now. I’ve read his books Stuff Christians Like and Quitter before so I was excited when I got to dive into his newest book, Start. This is a kind of follow-up to the book Quitter as it shows you what to do to follow your dreams. He walks through the different stages that people go through in a career and shows how it isn’t dependent upon your age anymore. You can move between the stages when you choose to. My only complaint about the book is the number of times he says the word “awesome.” It becomes a bit excessive and even distracting after awhile. If that’s the worst thing going for it than I’d say the book should be just fine overall. What I love most about the book is how Jon inspires you to get off your butt and do something about those dreams you have lingering inside you. I’m convinced that we all have them but only a few of us ever do anything serious about them. Here are some of my favorite quotes from the book to whet your appetite:“Age is no longer the primary factor that determines where you are on the map. Life is now less about how old you are and more about when you decide to live.” “Luck is a word people who are lazy use to describe people who are hustling. If you ever taste it in your mouth, spit it out as fast as you can.” “Rest is not a by-product of my success; it’s a by-product of my humanity. I don’t have to get ahead to enjoy it or need it.” “Always play to the size of your heart, not the size of your audience.” “A dream you don’t have to fight for isn’t a dream—it’s a nap. And while naps are delightful and enjoyed best on Sunday afternoon, they do very little to move you closer to awesome. A nap changes your afternoon. Awesome changes your world.” “Spend more time practicing your dream than you do promoting your dream.” “You will work harder at something you love than something you like.” “The truth is that if you’re married, awesome is a team sport. Traveling your road to awesome with your spouse is twice as fun as being on it by yourself.”Today is the release day for Jon’s latest book and I highly recommend you check it out!
