Yankees win 27th World Series

I dedicate this to all the “haters” out there that have had plenty of comments for me all year whenever I predicted this moment. Enjoy.

Lost Potential

I found out this morning that Nick Adenhart, a young pitcher for the Angels, was killed last night in a tragic car accident. I had watched Baseball Tonight last week as they raved about Adenhart and I quickly picked him up for my fantasy baseball team. They projected him to be a pitching phenom and he was already off to an amazing season. He pitched six scoreless innings yesterday in only his fourth major-league start. He was 22 years old.

In fantasy baseball terms, he was one of those diamond-in-the-rough players that starts out obscure and then has the ability to make your entire season since nobody drafted him or expected him to do anything. And that is only fantasy baseball. I can’t imagine how sad the Angels are. But that is only a sport. I really can’t imagine how heartbroken his family must be. To have someone with so much ahead of him and so much to look forward to. It is a good reminder to us to embrace the moments we have now. My prayers and sympathies go out to his family and loved ones.

UFC On Ice

snv10744Michelle and I were given amazing tickets to the Coyotes hockey game last night. We were sitting in the Toyota Club section and were right behind the Coyotes bench. In addition to the great seats we had, we also were able enjoy an all you can eat buffet (including lamb).

I found myself constantly observing the legend himself, Mr. Wayne Gretsky, as he stood just a few feet from us. He was surprisingly mellow throughout the entire game.

Living up to its stereotype, we even got to see a fight break out. And I have to say, it is kind of odd to see how it plays out in person. Everyone else on the ice, refs included, stand around and wait for the fight to end or go to the ground before anybody intervenes. As Michelle put it, it’s kind of like UFC on Ice. I had a lot more fun than I expected and I also realized that hockey is one major sport that I really don’t understand.

The First Ever “Trady”

Image and video hosting by TinyPicI have a new idea. I’m adding an award section to my blog. This is where I’ll give out random awards to people that I think deserve to be noticed.

So…(drumroll please)…I’m giving the first-ever “Tomorrow’s Reflection Award for Distinguishing Yourself,” also known as a “Trady,” to a guy named Zack Hample. What has Zack done to deserve such a prestigious honor? I’m glad you asked.

Image and video hosting by TinyPicZack is known for catching important home run baseballs at ballparks. Recently, Zach has added 2 of the last homeruns ever hit at Yankee Stadium and the last homerun ball ever hit by the Mets at Shea Stadium. Is it luck, or something more?

You may wonder what this guy does for a living. He charges people $500 to take him to a baseball game and ensure that they get a ball while they are there. He even guarantees it! Well done Zack, you’ve just been Trady-ed!

Thanks to Romi for this find. I now open it to the readers: do you know of anyone that deserves a Trady? If so, email it to me and maybe you’ll see their names next to their own Trady sometime soon.

Here are the requirements to be considered for this award:

  1. The person must have some unique talent or passion (neigh, obsession) that is different from most people
  2. The person must be someone who is not a “celebrity” and that needs the attention and power that comes from receiving a Trady
  3. The person must do something that someone else could argue was a complete waist of time
